Zakir Hossain Sarker

Zakir is a Barrister and Solicitor with the Law Society of Ontario, Canada.

He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, where he received his Master of Laws in Canadian Common Law. He also received Master of Laws (LL.M) and Bachelor of Law (LL. B Honours) degrees from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. As an internationally-trained lawyer, he completed his “Certificate of Qualification” with the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.

Zakir has more than 22 years’ experience of working as a lawyer. More recently, he has worked as the Human Rights Advisor of ActionAid Denmark stationed in Monrovia, Liberia. He was invited by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner in Geneva to share his experience in an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) held in Switzerland in January 2013. He was one of the presenters in a workshop organized by the UNESCO during the 6th International Conference on Adult Education held in Brazil in December 2009. Australian National University and World Vision Australia selected his paper to present in the International Conference on Measuring Effectiveness: Participation, Empowerment and Downward Accountability held in Melbourne, Australia in September 2008. He received Bob Luker Community Award from George Brown College, Toronto, Canada in recognition for his contribution to community development. He visited 21 countries to attend workshops, seminars, meetings, conferences etc. since he started his career in December 1998.

He has consistently striven for in-depth advisory on complex time-sensitive issues. He is compassionate, active listener and works directly with the clients. As he has diverse professional experience and multilingual background, he is able to provide quality services to his clients.

Zakir is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, Toronto Lawyers Association, the Canadian Bar Association, Bangladeshi Canadian Lawyers Association and Comilla Bar Association.
